EFF Tshwane Region 2 secretary Monicca Dube has been shot dead at her home in Wallmannsthal, Tshwane, just months after surviving a previous attack in which she was reportedly shot 11 times.

The 44-year-old political leader died on Saturday, 13 June 2026, after gunmen allegedly entered her home in the afternoon and opened fire.

Her killing has left her family devastated and sparked anger within the Economic Freedom Fighters, which has vowed to follow the matter closely until those responsible face justice.

Police have since opened a murder case at Kameeldrift Police Station. However, no arrests had been confirmed at the time of publication.

EFF Leader Killed Inside Her Home

Dube was reportedly attacked at about 13:50 on Saturday.

According to police information, two men wearing balaclavas allegedly entered her house through a dining room window. They then fled on foot after the shooting.

A witness reportedly heard a noise inside the house and went to investigate. The witness allegedly found the two masked men inside the property.

Moments later, gunshots rang out.

Dube sustained a gunshot wound to her left eye and died at the scene. Gauteng Emergency Medical Services later declared her dead.

The attack has raised serious questions, especially because Dube had already survived a violent shooting earlier this year.

She Survived a Previous Shooting

In March 2026, Dube survived after being shot 11 times.

She spent weeks in an intensive care unit after that attack. However, despite surviving the first shooting, she became the target of another deadly attack just months later.

That history has made her killing even more disturbing for her loved ones, party members and community members.

The EFF has expressed concern over the earlier attack and the fact that Dube was later killed before the previous matter could bring closure.

At this stage, police have not confirmed whether the two attacks are directly linked. Therefore, investigators will need to establish the motive and determine whether the same people were involved.

Family Left Heartbroken

Dube’s daughter, Tshepang Maseko, said the family is struggling to accept her mother’s death.

She described Dube as a strong woman and a fighter who dedicated her life to serving others.

Her daughter also said the family home was always open to the community. Sadly, she believes that same openness may have made her mother vulnerable to criminals.

The family is now dealing with grief, trauma and unanswered questions.

For many people in Wallmannsthal, Dube was more than a political figure. She was a community leader who made herself available to residents and often assisted those who needed help.

As a result, her death has shaken people beyond party lines.

EFF Demands Justice

EFF leaders visited the family home after the killing and called for justice.

EFF MP Leigh-Ann Mathys said the party would not rest until the killers were brought to book.

She said Dube had been a steady force in Tshwane and described her death as heartbreaking for the organisation.

Furthermore, Mathys said the party had arranged trauma counselling for the children affected by the incident.

Her comments reflected the anger and pain felt by party members who are now mourning another violent attack on a political representative.

Witness Heard Chilling Words

Police said a witness told investigators that one of the suspects appeared to refer to a “project” before the shooting.

According to police, the witness heard one suspect tell Dube that she had been warned to leave the project.

Shortly afterwards, the witness heard gunshots.

That detail may become important as investigators work to establish a motive.

However, police have not yet confirmed what the alleged “project” refers to. For that reason, authorities are expected to examine Dube’s work, community involvement and recent activities as part of the murder investigation.

Investigation Continues

Police are now investigating the killing and searching for the suspects.

The murder has once again placed political violence and community safety under the spotlight in South Africa.

Moreover, the case has highlighted the risks faced by local leaders who work closely with communities and remain accessible to residents.

Dube’s death has left her family without a mother, her community without a servant leader and the EFF without one of its active Tshwane organisers.

For now, her loved ones want answers. Police have urged anyone with information that could help the investigation to come forward.

Until arrests are made, the killing of Monicca Dube will remain a painful reminder of how quickly violence can destroy a family and shake an entire community.
