Position: Emergency Care Officers Internship Program (1120 Positions)

Directorate: Emergency Medical Services

Salary: Monthly Stipend of R 5 000.00 p/m Duration of Contract: 12 months

Requirements:

Grade 12 certificate or equivalent qualification.
Driver’s license (preferred).
Current and valid registration with HPCSA as (BAA / ILS/ ECT/ECA).
Candidates will undergo formal written tests and interviews.
Valid RSA ID document.

Duties:

Ensure compliance with departmental and Gauteng EMS policies and standard operating procedures.
Promptly attend all dispatched emergency calls.
Adhere to EMS and HPCSA procedures.
Co-ordinate and treat patients and other emergencies within the operational area.
Maintain high standards of customer etiquette and communication.
Ensure station compliance with EMS regulations.
Attend employer-identified training.

Main Purpose of Job:

The primary objective of this role is to respond to emergency calls and administer intermediate medical care within the scope of practice.

Required Education:

Essential: Ambulance Emergency Assistant Certificate or Higher Certificate in Emergency Medical Care.
Desired: Successful completion of training related to Clinical Practice Guidelines published by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). Non-compliant applicants will be required to complete this training during the probation period if successful in the application.

Essential Minimum: 1 year of EMS experience.
Desired: 1 year of Intermediate Life Support (ILS) experience.

Required Job Skills and Knowledge:

Familiarity with facilities, travel routes, and demographics of the area.
Knowledge of HPCSA guidelines and scope of practice.
Familiarity with Patient Report Forms.
Proficiency in written and verbal English communication.
