The Cyril Ramaphosa Education Trust (CRET) 2024 Bursary Program
In an effort to break down financial barriers hindering higher education, the Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation established the Cyril Ramaphosa Education Trust (CRET) Bursary Programme.
This initiative, dating back to 2000, is designed to aid academically gifted South African students facing economic hardship, enabling them to pursue their studies at tertiary institutions.

Minimum Requirements for Application:
To be eligible for the 2024 CRET Bursary Support Programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- South African citizenship
- Valid South African ID number
- Age between 16 and 27 years old
- Currently in Matric or have completed Matric
- Enrolled or intending to pursue an undergraduate qualification in specified fields of study
- Application or registration at a recognized and accredited South African tertiary institution
- Demonstrable financial need (household income not exceeding R650,000 per annum)
- Submission of a compelling motivational letter and results from a psychometric test relevant to the chosen field of study.
Fields of Study Covered:
Bursaries will be granted for undergraduate studies in the following areas:
- Sciences (excluding MBChB)
- Technology
- Engineering
- Commerce and Finance
- Education
- Scarce/critical skills training (e.g., boiler making, welding, plumbing, entrepreneurship, etc.)
Financial Support:
The CRET bursary covers:
- Full tuition fees
- Textbooks and study materials
- Laptops
- Accommodation
- Meals
- Monthly living allowance and transport (if necessary).
Selection Process:
Applicants will undergo a comprehensive assessment, including psychometric evaluations and formal interviews, before final selection. It is imperative that applicants submit all necessary documentation, including SA ID, academic records, proof of household income, residence, and application at the institution, along with their motivational letter and psychometric test results.
