Job Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Train Assistants Trainee.

As a Train Assistants Trainee, you will be responsible for assisting the Train Driver in the safe and efficient operation of trains, ensuring that customers’ freight/cargo reaches its destination in good condition and on time.

Key Responsibilities:

– Assist the Train Driver in the safe and efficient operation of trains
– Prepare locomotives and trains for departure

– Perform pre-trip preparation and attach/detach vehicles according to works order
– Execute shunting activities in sidings and enroute

– Assist the train driver enroute to ensure safe movement of the train
– Comply with safety standards and laid-down instructions
– Provide accurate feedback to the Train Driver regarding incidents and deviations
– Assist in performing administration duties
– Complete the Train journal and submit to the Section manager

Requirements:

– Grade 12 with pure Mathematics and/or Physical Science
– Willingness to undergo periodic medical surveillance and safety behavioral risk assessments

– Physical hearing, vision, mental, and fitness
– Minimum age of 21 years
– Minimum height of 1.6m
– Psychomotor ability

Preferred Qualifications:

– Relevant tertiary qualification in a related field
– Previous experience in a related field
